South Africa, Day 1: February 2

The View from my parents back porch--breathtaking!

Since my mom knew we would be screwed up from jet lag, she didn't plan much for the first couple of days. Monday afternoon we headed to Gonubie beach where my parents go jogging every morning. It was a pretty cloudy, overcast day, so we didn't swim--even if it was warm, the water is actually quite cold. The beaches are a lot like California's. Anyway, Cecily loved just exploring the little tide pools from the low tide, and I was saoking in the beautiful scenery. I really couldn't believe how green and lush it was. I tlooked like a scene out of Swiss family Robinson.

It started to rain, so we left and my mom took us to their little shopping center where we ended up going almost every day. We checked out "Pep"--a little store with clothes and stuff--I couldn't believe the prices. It's 10 Rand to our dollar, so stuff was like 26 Rand, or $2.60 for a whole little kid outfit--We had fun browsing and picking out a few things for Ceci.

That night we had dinner at "Le Petit", a restaurant my mom had told me about before we came. It's the most delicious steakhouse ever---seriously like Carvers quality steaks and meat. My meal was $8 and Ryan's was $15 for a HUGE water buffalo steak. They grill it at the table, it was really cool. I felt so bad though when we went to a game park later and saw what Ryan had eaten--it's a beatiful animal that's one of the 'big five'. The big five are the top five most dangerous animals to hunt: the Lion, Leopard, Rhino, Elephant, and Water Buffalo. Anyway, I guess it's not endangered or anything....
