South Africa, Day 7: Sunday

Sunday of course was a relaxed day. We went to church and it was so nice to meet all the people in my parents' ward they had talked about so often.

That evening was really special--one of the Elders began a Sundays at 5 fireside for the young adults in the second-largest township in the country--Mdanstane. A township is basically government housing, and these homes are small and humble, basically cinder block houses that just provide the basic shelter need. Some are a little bigger than others, but it really is humbling to see. It's basically all blacks, I know it sounds strange in in our society, but there's still a little segregation--they are not forced to live there by any means, but it was set up during apartheid. Interesting country to say the least.

Anyway, the young adult members that live here are faithful in very trying circumstances. In fact, the church is RIGHT next door to the bar! It was such a contrast to walk out of this fireside and hear the music from the bar. My mom said sometimes yuou can even hear it during church.

So we got to go to this fireside--it's was basically a workshop of sorts, the Elder that organized the whole thing gave a lesson on mangaing finances. Before he began, he had Ryan and I introduce ourselves and bear our testimonies. It was so humbling to bear our testimonies to these saints that have no one's testimony to rely on but their own. They are such an inspiration!

The girls LOVED cecily and all wanted to hold her. They don't see little white babies very often!
